Is your website down, or is it just a local issue?

There may have been a point in the past where you were unable to access your website - this however does not always mean that this is the case for the general public.

There are two different possibilities - it could either be a widespread issue or in fact a local issue. It is more common for it to be a local issue - this means it is only happening on the computer or device you're trying to access the site from. The reason for this is usually to do with networking; you may have lost internet connection, reached your bandwidth limit or had a temporary outage.

A way to check the status of your website is to go to www.isup.me (also known as DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com) - this will instantly let you know if the issue you are receiving is just on your computer or if the website is down for the general public.

You can enter your website address and hit enter - it will then tell you if the website is down or not.

If you see a message like the one above, then it means that only you (and potentially the people using the same network) are experiencing the issue and you don't need to worry about the public not being able to access your site. You will then need to identify the source of the problem - check the status of your network (whether it be wireless or wired), see if you're able to access other websites and potentially contact your ISP to see if there are any known outages. If have no leads after these checks, then contact your web host to see if there's anything they can help with. If the report comes back saying the website is down for everyone, contact your host immediately to see what the cause of the issue is.
