Movember: The digital fundraising movement

It’s that time of year again where men up and down the country raise money for men’s health awareness and research. As social media popularity and online donation sites grow, we take a look at how easy it is to get involved in Movember and spread the word.

The Movember Foundation is one of the main players in the Movember movement. They’ve raised over £346 million towards over 800 funded programmes in over 21 countries. Their main areas of focus are on prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.

For those who aren’t 100% sure what Movember is, since the popularity of growing a moustache has decreased over the last century,  the idea is that men grow a moustache in aid of charity and for the entertainment of their friends and family. To date 4 million moustaches have been grown worldwide and the campaign grows every year. Another side to the campaign is to spark conversation about men’s health and remove some of the taboos associated with it.

Matt's movemberMen who take part in the campaign are affectionately termed ‘Mo Bros’ and any women who support them as ‘Mo Sistas’. The idea is to encourage all to engage with men’s health problems and solve them together. The movement began in Australia and as such has a fun and free feeling to the campaign every year.

We have our very own ‘Mo Bro’ here at Cosmic as Matt is raising money for Movember. If you’d like to find out more about his campaign click here.
