How to be anonymous on LinkedIn | Cosmic Skip to main content

Have you ever wondered why some people show as anonymous when they have been looking at your LinkedIn profile? Well, there is a reason; it is up to you if you chose to be anonymous or not. But, how do you change the settings? It's actually relatively simple.

Go to the top right-hand corner of your LI page and hover over your photo (1). In the drop down menu that appears you will see a title called "Privacy & Settings".

Click on "Review" (2) which will take you to the next page.

Under the "Profile" tab, is a section called "Select what others see when you've viewed their profile" (it's the third one down). When this is clicked (3), a pop up box comes up in the centre of the screen.

You can then select whichever options suits you best (4).

• Your name and headline (recommended)
• Anonymous profile characteristics such as industry and title
• Totally anonymous

*NOTE* - If you select anything other than "your name and headline", it will erase all of your profile stats and viewer history. If you decide to switch it back on, you will have to start building your stats back up again; it does not remember your previous statistics.

If you want to surf around LinkedIn anonymously, then you can. But remember, if you want to see who has been looking at your profile, you'll need to select the top option and be visible to everyone else too.

LinkedIn explains it all here in their 'help section':
