Every year we produce our Social Impact Report. Filled with Case Studies, statistics and stories, our report captures the range of work that Cosmic has achieved over the previous year.

Memory Matters is a South West organisation providing essential services to those affected by dementia. They are champions of CST (Cognitive Stimulation Therapy) achieved through working with participants to help slow the progression of dementia and increase quality of life.

COVID-19 brought huge challenges to the organisation, as government restrictions prevented these essential workshops from taking place. The transition from face-to-face sessions to a wholly online approach was a particular challenge to those affected by dementia and their families.

Memory Matters approached Cosmic to help identify technologies that may ease the impact of social distancing restrictions on their service users. Working in partnership with Memory Matters, Cosmic trialled Facebook Portal devices as an easy-to-use method of running workshop sessions. These devices, once installed in beneficiary’s homes, allow participants to fully participate in the services Memory Matters provide directly and through their partner organisations. A lack of internet connectivity also proved a challenge for some beneficiaries.

Cosmic were delighted to able to provide guidance and advice on incorporating Mi-Fi devices into the scope of the project, allowing even those participants without a broadband connection to benefit from the endeavour.

Providing support to workshop facilitators, administrators and beneficiaries directly, Cosmic have been working to ensure these vital services continue with as little disruption as possible to those who benefit from them the most.
