Technology inspires Torbay families

ESF and Lottery logoTorbay families got hands-on with technology in a series of free events this summer - from animation and photography workshops to DIY virtual reality sessions.

Run by Cosmic and Torbay Community Development Trust as part of the National Lottery funded Positive People project, the events attracted more than 50 attendees. Parents and children spent quality time together building virtual reality headsets and creating their own stop-motion Lego movies.

The events aim to engage locals with the Positive People programme, which supports people who are out of work to develop practical skills, training, education and personal development and gain the confidence and motivation needed for employment. It is part of Building Better Opportunities, a programme funded by the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund, and European Social Fund to tackle the root causes of poverty, promote social inclusion and drive local jobs and growth. The project will help over 1,000 people over the next three years.

Vicky Moss-Crump, Digital Project Manager for Cosmic, said: “Children are growing up with technology and are generally very intuitive and comfortable with it, but that isn’t always the case for their parents and carers. By getting families involved in these events we aim to help the adults have fun with tech and enjoy some quality time with their children, whilst learning new skills. We were delighted with both the turnout and the feedback.”
