Eight ways to use a Chromecast | Cosmic Skip to main content

ChromecastA Google Chromecast is a simple device which allows the user to stream what is on your Android, Windows or Apple device straight to a TV. This includes presentations, videos, music, streaming apps such as Netflix and Now TV and even games. It is a cheap device which encompasses many uses and solutions.

Movies and TV – Google Chromecast allows you to stream from a variety of TV and film apps such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, 4oD, and Now TV from your phone to your TV. This means that rather than squinting to watch blockbusters on a mobile phone or tablet, you can take the films to the big screen.

Photos – Google Photos allow you to project the photos stored on your phone directly to your TV using the Chromecast. This means that, instead of trying to show friends and family your much loved pictures on a 5-inch Smartphone screen, you can show them off in their full glory on a TV screen that no-one struggles to see.

Games – By using Google Play, games can be downloaded onto your phone, played on your phone but displayed on your TV through the Google Chromecast. This allows a more involved experience for families and friends as well as a better experience for the user.

Google Slides – After making a presentation on Google Slides you have the ability to do something you didn’t know was possible. By simply plugging the Chromecast into the HDMI port on your TV, you can use your smartphone to then play the presentation you have made, on the TV. This is an incredibly useful aspect when it comes to a business environment. The Chromecast makes wires look like they’ve gone out of fashion and, with a simple set up, is a brilliant solution.

Music – If you want sound quality that your smartphone simply cannot provide, why not use your Chromecast for music? The Chromecast allows you to stream YouTube, Spotify and Google Play Music straight from your phone to your TV.

‘Quiet time’ – If you would like the luxury of watching something through your Chromecast but do not want to disturb others then look no further.  You have the option to download ‘Local cast’ on your smartphone. This enables you to have the video element of what you are watching on your TV whilst keeping the audio coming from your smartphone or tablet.

Hotels – With a Chromecast you no longer have to worry about the limited choice of TV channels available abroad, instead you can rest assured that your trusty Chromecast will keep you up to date with all of your favourite programmes.

Guest mode – If you have guests which you would not like to give access to the Wi-Fi but are more than happy for them to have free reign over the TV, you can change the settings on the Chromecast to ‘Guest mode’, allowing anyone with a Google Cast Ready app that's open within a certain distance of the Chromecast to connect once the option shows up on their device.
