Making the Most of Working at Home - Virtualise your business

26th March 2020

During this critical time, many people are having to adjust to a new way of life and a new way of working. We’ve prepared a number of articles that might help you settle into the new routine over the coming days and weeks. Feel free to share them with your colleagues and friends.

Do you rely upon footfall and face-to-face interactions? Do not despair as there are approaches that you can take that ensure your business stays active and drives a positive result, even during this challenging time. Take stock of how much your business actually relies on face-to-face interaction, and think of ways that you might replace or augment the services on offer.

For example - even businesses which are mainly reliant on personal contacte.g. hairdressers, could use the opportunities presented by lower bookings and appointment attendances to invest in video content, for example to demonstrate latest cut and colour trends, etc. Other businesses where lower customer numbers are likely in the short-term (e.g. hospitality) might use the time to update website content, capture promotional videosdo food photography of your best dishes etc. Now can be a great time to reach your current and future customers, ensure they keep interested.

Social Media and websites can be a great avenue and communication channel for you at this time. Develop a community of businesses in your area (and industry) and start sharing great content. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Youtube etc - they are all free and there to be used. Keeping in touch with your customers will help your resilience.

It's important to keep customer loyalty. Maintain communications with customers and promote interest in your business. Offer advice, wisdom and professional knowledge - either as an income generator (paid service), or as a free service.

Use this time to invest in your business. Do those tasks that you've been putting off for years; the rainy-day jobs. Keep your business active and improving.
