By Jonathan Allard, Cosmic’s Technical and Security Lead

Cosmic is many things, but I think one of the things I am most proud of is that we are a social enterprise and that this allows us to work with charities.

For me, that means working with them as a Managed Service Provider (MSP), providing managed IT support for charities. We help with everything from keeping their day-to-day IT working to designing roadmaps for how they would like their digital systems to grow and mature. We also provide cybersecurity support, strengthen digital environments and help protect charities against online threats.

What makes Cosmic different?

Most MSPs would provide these services, and they would do them well.

What makes Cosmic different is that we care about the social impact each charity is making. This guides everything we do at Cosmic. Because we are a social enterprise, these are not just buzzwords we use to drive sales. They are the reason we exist.

I think that, if I explain a little about myself, what I mean will make more sense.

Finding a new sense of mission

I served in the Royal Navy for well over a decade before I was unfortunately medically discharged. I had to find a job I could do while working around the limitations my body had decided to place upon me.

At the same time, I wanted to find somewhere I could work where it was not just about the money being made.

In the end, I found Cosmic.

At Cosmic, they let me work around the limitations I found myself with. They do everything they can to make sure that I am not only able to do my job, but that my health does not suffer.

That is great, but what I really cared about was that they gave me back my sense of mission.

Helping charities through digital technology

Every organisation has something it does and a value it tries to deliver through that work.

What Cosmic has, and what it gives me, is the mission to do good through digital technology.

I get to work with lots of fantastic charities, day in and day out. I get to design innovative solutions to the unique challenges charities face. I also get to make their systems as secure as possible, while working with the resources they have available.

For me, good charity IT support services are about more than keeping technology running. They are about helping charities stay secure, work effectively and continue supporting the people and communities that rely on them.

Technology should enable the charity’s mission

Cosmic is different, but of course I would say that. Hopefully, though, you now understand that I genuinely believe what I am saying.

Cosmic gave me my sense of purpose back: to do as much good as possible by helping charities in every way we can.

But technology is only the tool.

What matters most is the charity, its mission and the people it supports. We want to make sure charities are enabled by their technology, not limited by it, so they can continue doing the wonderful things they do.

Through practical managed IT support for charities and cybersecurity support for charities, we help organisations use technology to support their mission rather than stand in its way.
