Action Plan Launched

28th May 2019

Cosmic’s joint CEO, Julie Hawker, was recently appointed as Chair of the Digital Skills Partnership (DSP) in the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

In this role, Julie has played a major part in developing the Action Plan which has recently been launched. This plan details all the work to be completed by the DSP over the coming year. Cosmic is very proud to support Julie’s work as it forms a vital role in increasing the delivery of digital skills to businesses across the region. This, in turn, will help grow the local economy. We are also keen to encourage other businesses and digital skills providers to reflect on the actions planned. We want them to join in with the work of the DSP and to do their bit in achieving the major improvements needed to embrace the potential that Digital can offer over the coming years.

Julie comments on the Action Plan’s launch: “The new plan marks a further milestone in the development and increased delivery of digital skills in our region and it will be great to see businesses and skills providers rise to the challenges set out. We all have to keep the momentum going and encourage everyone to understand the prize which digital skills can offer; from increased productivity to growth, engagement and talent retention - just to name a few! At the DSP we share an ambition to inspire closer collaboration between businesses who can share skills and support development and innovation based on digital technologies.”

The DSP is now working on the first set of prioritised action points in the plan. This is being completed through a set of task-and-finish groups with a focus on swift and agile progress being achieved. This is also strongly linking up to the LEP’s work on its Local Industrial Strategy and the ‘Grand Challenges’ being considered there. A specific piece of work is now being scoped in how digital skills can support a key objective: Clean Growth. This focuses on helping our businesses use Digital for growth and improved productivity, whilst simultaneously radically reducing the environmental impact of doing business in the region.
